The New Shop is finally complete! Come down to Nasson and check out the new space! It’s brighter, warmer and as always full of bikes! We are still open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for “drop-in” from 2-5pm with our spectacular adult open shop on Tuesdays from 5-7pm. Walk down the steps right inside Nasson and you will see a brand new wall…behind the door…our new space! We are also excited about several new volunteers at the Nasson Community Bicycle Center! Boy does it feel like we are growing and will have the opportunity to teach more kids all about bicycle repair while putting more bikes in the Sanford Community. Looking forward to seeing you there!
That’s right we are moving the shop! We started building the wall yesterday in the multi-purpose room that you step into as you come down the stairs. The wall is up, sheet rock is close to complete…next steps will be to mud and tape, paint and voila a bigger shop! We are very excited as we grow and expand. We will be able to have nine stands in the new shop and more space to focus on building more bikes. We plan to start using the shop as soon as Tuesday and hope that over the next couple of weeks everything will come together nicely. All the supplies and tools in one room, with a steady flow of Heat! We are currently looking for someone with graffiti experience or the ability to paint a mural outside the wall of the new shop. The changes are very exciting as we move into the new year. Looking forward to enrolling new bike shop members and continuing to grow all the while putting more bikes into Sanford for those folks that need them.
Open shop is still running Tues, Wed and Thursday from 2p-5pm…with an extended open family shop on Tuesday nights from 5pm-7pm. We are excited to welcome any students, volunteers or guests interested in checking out the new shop, stop by during our shop hours.

The Nasson Community Bicycle Center would like to thank Zack W. for his work with youth in our afterschool bicycle program. Zack has volunteered more than 70 hours at the NCBC, mentoring youth and guiding them in bicycle mechanics. His patient demeanor and friendly smile brighten up the shop, and our kids look forward to his arrival each day.
Zack is a true mentor who teaches by example, encourages, and empowers youth to use creativity and problem-solving in the bike shop.
Zack, thank you for making the program a great place to be!
The youth who come through our Bicycle Center’s doors sift through the stacks of used bicycles, each looking for that unique set of wheels that will take them to the skate park, to school, or out on the trails. Some of our students spend several afternoons repairing a bicycle to donate before fixing a bicycle to keep for themselves. One such student, after having put the finishing touches on a blue and chrome Huffy Rockit, smiled from ear to ear when he pulled his own bicycle out of the stack.
Hanging from the handlebars of the Specialized Rockhopper, in a small plastic bag, was a note from the previous owner, who had recently donated the bicycle to our program. The note read:
“To the new owner of this bike – I have loved this bike and am sad to give it up. It has taken me on so many great rides to incredible places – Jackson Hole Wyoming, real mountain biking in the Tetons, the Rockies, up to 10,000 feet above sea level in the Snowy Range, WY to Slick Rock in Moab, Utah (the best mountain bike trail in the world!) Canyonlands of Utah, California, New Mexico, Arizona, and then more great rides in Maine and New Hampshire.
I hope you have as much fun on this bike as I did.
Happy trails!”
Each of the donated bicycles at the Bicycle Center has its own unique story, but few come with the story attached. For this lucky student, his bicycle’s story made the refurbishing process that much more meaningful.
Think about your past bicycling experiences. Where has your bicycle been that makes it special? What legacy will its next rider inherit?
